Prof Nicola Marples and Prof Jane Stout, researchers from Trinity College who are undertaking the biodiversity audit initiated by President Higgins, took a break from their work today, to greet Bród and Síoda.
Síoda inniu / today.
President Higgins has said that he was deeply touched by the large number of drawings, letters and postcards he has received in the last number of weeks from people of all ages. It is usual for the President to receive thousands of letters, but since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic the amount of post from children, parents and people of all ages and circumstances, that he receives on a daily basis has increased enormously. They have given a great and diverse picture of the response to Covid-19. These photo show a small selection of the messages received, laid out on the large dining table in the State Dining Room. This is the table around which the members of the first government of the Irish Free State sat for their first meeting. Dúirt an tUachtarán Ó hUigínn go raibh sé an-chorraithe ag an líon mór líníochtaí, litreacha agus cártaí poist a fuair sé ó dhaoine de gach aois sna seachtainí beaga seo. Is iondúil go bhfaigheann an tUachtarán na mílte litir, ach ó thosaigh paindéim Covid-19 tá méadú mór millteach tagtha ar an méid poist ar bhun laethúil ó pháistí, ó thuismitheoirí, agus ó dhaoine de gach aois agus i ngach cúinse. Fuair siad go léir freagra. Léirigh siad íomhá iontach agus éagsúil den fhreagairt ar Covid-19. Taispeántar rogha beag de na teachtaireachtaí a fuarthas, iad leagtha amach ar an mbord mór i Seomra Bia an Stáit. Is é sin an bord ar shuigh baill chéad rialtas an tSaorstáit thar timpeall air i gcomhair a gcéad chruinniú.
